Founder/President: Zakiya B. Moyenda, MD, MBA
Born in the U.K. with Jamaican heritage, Dr. Zakiya Bomani Moyenda came to the U.S. at age 4. He was raised in Rockford, IL and moved to South Florida in 1987 and attended North Miami Senior High to complete high school studies. In 1995, he graduated from F.I.U. in Miami with a B.A. in Psychology and immediately went on to pursue and obtain a MBA in Health Administration from Temple University in Philadelphia in 1998.
In the spring of 1997, while completing his graduate studies at Temple U., Dr. Moyenda embraced the religion of Islam after witnessing a congregational prayer of Muslims in a South Philadelphia mosque. He would eventually become an active member in the Muslim Student Associations of the local universities in Philadelphia, PA, New Brunswick, N.J. and Miami, FL.
After working in healthcare administration for 8 years, Dr. Moyenda – at the age of 36 – went to study medicine in 2006 at the American University of Antigua in the Caribbean where he graduated cum laude in 2010. In 2015, he completed his residency training in Family Medicine at the Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. Dr. Moyenda is a board-certified physician who currently practices hospital medicine in Deerfield Beach, FL.
He is also the Founder & President of The Tazkiyah Health Institute, Inc. – a private, concierge medical practice that focuses on disease prevention and health promotion. In his recreation time, Dr. Moyenda enjoys writing poetry, cycling, cooking, motivational speeches and reading autobiographies.
